Apple iPhone 16 Series Get A18 A18 Pro Processor Know Details

Apple introduced the iPhone 16 series at its Glowtime event on Monday. The iPhone series includes iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. The new iPhones were introduced with several new hardware features and Apple Intelligence integration. For the first time, the Cupertino based tech giant has equipped the series with two new system-on-a-chip A18 and A18 Pro. The company has claimed better performance, better gaming and the ability to run Large Language Model (LLM) with the new chipset. Let us know about it in detail.

Apple introduces A18, A18 Pro chipset

At the event, the company said that A18 processors have been provided in iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, while A18 Pro processors have been provided in iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Providing A18 processor in non-Pro model means that A17 Pro chip is not provided in iPhone 16. Apple claimed that this would significantly improve performance. Both chipsets are built on the second generation 3nm process, which was first seen with the A17 Pro. It has a 16-core Neural Engine that is said to handle AI tasks at 35 TOPS, along with a 6-core CPU and 5-core GPU.

Apple claims that the 6 core CPU of the A18 chipset is 30 percent faster than the previous A16 Bionic. It is also said to be 30 percent more energy efficient. Apart from this, iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus have 40 percent faster GPU performance and 35 percent power efficiency compared to the iPhone 15 model. These devices are also getting hardware-accelerated ray tracing capabilities.

The A18 Pro processor in the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max is claimed to deliver a 17 percent increase in total system memory bandwidth, which will help the devices perform complex AI tasks. Compared to A17 Pro, the new processor is said to be 20 percent faster in GPU performance and 15 percent faster in CPU performance. It is also said to be 20 percent more energy efficient.

Additionally, the A18 Pro also offers realistic light sources and reflections as well as improved ray tracing with more consistent frame rates. The chipset also powers the Always-On and ProMotion technologies on the device. Apart from this it supports fast USB 3 speed and ProRes video recording. A new ISP and video encoder process double the amount of data for faster video encoding and pro workflows.
